Payment for Water
| Answer pending
We – GERMAN NGO Water for Kenya – supported the Community to build the Ivooni Thwake Sand Dam with solar pumping …
the Cooperative has to guarantee, that
- -water will be given only, if it is paid for,
- -there will be a reliable control,
- -there is enough money from selling water to guarantee the annual maintenance of the solar pump by external experts and enough money for unexpected repairs.
- All technical devices should be checked, cleaned and maintained
It’s possible that the implementation of the project will lead to a splitting of the community:
- -those who can irrigate their fields and by that can harvest throughout the year and
- -those who can’t have irrigation of their fields
A later extension of the irrigation area was possibly planned.
An extension of the irrigation area can only be financed by the Cooperative. A financing by the GERMAN Ministry or by NGO Water for Kenya is not possible.
It seems fair, that those who have water for irrigation and by that better harvests must finance the costs for the extension of the irrigation area, for example by a higher amount for water.
For this topic we try to find a proper solution.
If somebody has experience that we could learn from, it would be very helpful.
How was the calculation? What is the water price per eg. 100 l, …
